Let People Do Their Job#
I was just so happy that I could self-approve and merge a change that was well-specified and talked about while my colleague was unavailable.
Please, let people do their jobs! Do not harm their agency by forcing them to adhere to a workflow.
Don’t get me wrong: I am all for checks and balances like code-review and Vier-Augen-Prinzip via approvals next to many other things that organizations should do to ensure high quality work.
But please, make it by convention! Allow people to choose when it is better to skip steps in a process.
Make them accountable by all means. In my case: I own what I push to main. It is my responsibility alone.
